'തൃശൂര്‍ ചന്ദ്രന്‍' (Thrissur Chandran) എന്നായിരുന്നു അറിയപ്പെട്ടത്. അനാരോഗ്യത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് കുറച്ചുകാലമായി ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്നു. ശ്വാസ സംബന്ധമായ അസുഖത്തെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് മുളംകുന്നത്തുകാവ് മെഡിക്കല്‍ കോളെജ് ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. അവിടെവച്ച് ശനിയാഴ്ചയാണ് അന്ത്യം സംഭവിച്ചത്.

സിനിമയിലെത്തുന്നതിനു മുന്‍പ് കേരളത്തിന്‍റെ പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ നാടകവേദിയില്‍ പ്രേക്ഷകശ്രദ്ധ നേടിയ നടനായിരുന്നു ചന്ദ്രന്‍. കലാനിലയം, തിരുവനന്തപുരം അതുല്യ, ഗുരുവായൂര്‍ ബന്ധുര, കൊല്ലം ഐശ്വര്യ, തൃശൂര്‍ ചിന്മയ, ഓച്ചിറ ഗുരുജി എന്നീ ട്രൂപ്പുകളുടെ നാടകങ്ങളില്‍ അഭിനയിച്ചു. 'വെനീസിലെ വ്യാപാരി' എന്ന നാടകത്തിനെ അഭിനയത്തിന് മികച്ച നടനുള്ള 2002ലെ സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ പുരസ്‍കാരം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കലാനിലയത്തിന്‍റെ ഒരു നാടകത്തിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ പ്രകടനം കണ്ടാണ് തന്‍റെ സിനിമയിലേക്ക് ക്ഷണിച്ചതെന്ന് സത്യന്‍ അന്തിക്കാട് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. സിനിമാമേഖലയിലേക്ക് ഏറെ വൈകി മാത്രം എത്തിയ ചന്ദ്രന്‍ പി എന്‍ മേനോന്‍, സത്യന്‍ അന്തിക്കാട്, ഹരിഹരന്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങളില്‍ അഭിനയിച്ചു. 'തോടയം' എന്ന സീരിയലിലെ കഥാപാത്രവും ഏറെ ശ്രദ്ധ നേടിയിരുന്നു.
